We Define OURSELVES
by Shinobi Muhammad
I am always fond of the type of feedback we receive regarding the magazine. I oen use that feedback as the basis behind each issue of the magazine. As I listen in on thoughts, ideas and perceptions of this or that. I, even aer digesting all of what is said realize that having a magazine that “defines” its self is critical in capturing a diverse audience. Some people offer input and views of which I find very helpful. While I find others to be spiteful, self serving or detrimental to the aims and objectives of the magazine. The whole idea of having a magazine that finds its roots in the soil of different nationalities, races, beliefs and people in general. A magazine that is not trying to be Vogue, Cosmo, Essence or any other well established and beneficial publication. However, a magazine that wants to ever evolve. A magazine that is of this and the future generation of those who love fashion, music, and the best things of people of all walks of life. A magazine that maintains diversity in its message visually and literally. A magazine that will take risks. I enjoy having a magazine that reaches half way across the globe and offers to a photographer, model, recording artist, or anyone in the world of fashion, business, politics and religion an outlet to express themselves. As Urban Mainstream continues to grow. We will undoubtedly gain our share of those who will find something wrong with the way we do business. However, in that is the very beauty of it all. Even in those who can find something they do not like about us lays the very purpose of why we exist. We exist to be an outlet for the exchange of ideas, views and intellectual thought. It is not always good to hear the good all of the time as it is not good to continue to be bombarded by negativity. A healthy dose of both will keep you balanced and ever looking to improve yourself. Urban Mainstream is again going through another phase of growth. Now, we are moving more into the area of 1 and fashion spreads. We will begin to focus on improving our look while we work hard at building our internal business. We want to insure all involved in the magazine will be proud to have their name, product, and or service associated with us. In this, I know Urban Mainstream magazine will make even more leaps in bounds towards being a major industry magazine like no other. A magazine that has a true identity. A magazine that “Defines” its self, regardless to whom or what.
