EDITOR´S NOTE Dear readers! The first issue of the new OBTAINER WORLDWIDE was a great success – thanks to you, our readers! The success was so overwhelming that I am compelled to write something here about the concept of our online magazine, about the strategy of the “Obtainer Media Group“ and about our CEO, Michael Sander – so as to prevent any misunderstandings. For when on December 23rd last year we sent out the Newsletter in which we publicized the first edition of OBTAINER WORLDWIDE, our servers went down – and this happened although the Newsletter had only been sent to our subscribers in the German-speaking countries, since we first published the German version. But as a result of its size – 130 pages – even in the version optimized for the Web the file being still over 85 megabytes, our servers were working at full capacity almost 24 hours a day over the Christmas period and many interested people were astonished by the sluggish data transfer. But when you consider that the 150,000 downloads that were made in the first four days alone had a total data volume of over 12,000 gigabytes, in other words more than 12 terabytes, the transfer “speed” becomes understandable. At the same time I must admit with a proper „mea culpa“ that I made a fateful error in writing the Newsletter and here I want to apologize sincerely: I had forgotten to direct you to the new Internet address! This is www.obtainer-ww.com . At this URL the current issue of the German edition of OBTAINER WW appears as a Flash PDF. This is, if you will, the “real” online magazine. The download page in the membership area of the OBTAINER Platform, which is protected by a password, functions as an archive: Here you can research at any time in the “old” issues of OBTAINER and you have the opportunity to download the magazine as a PDF file optimized for your screen. Until recently we also offered a download of a version optimized for printing, but in view of the size it has now reached we have decided to do this differently in future: as a “print on demand“ operation. When you consider the print version of Number 33 of OBTAINER ONLINE with 108 pages is already more than 125 megabytes, you will understand why we will have to handle things differently with OBTAINER WW – above all when you consider that a large number of our readers live in parts of the globe where the idea of “broad-band access” is on many levels a foreign concept. 4 OBTAINER previous page next page
