The achievement of Knowle Golf Club juniors is outstanding, not only in winning the England Junior Team Championship 2008. Three years ago they were awarded the Junior Golf Mark and in 2008 were awarded the new Golf Mark Assessment. In December 2008 I had the honour to present the Golf Mark Certificate and Plaque to the Chairman of Knowle Golf Club, David Roman. The County has benefited enormously with juniors coming through the ranks at Knowle, not only to play for the County but some became County Captains. Congratulations to Filton Golf Club, who this year celebrate their Centenary Year, which brings the achievement of hosting the County Championships in 2009. I could not and would not write this foreword without a mention of our County Secretary, Ian Watkins. He works tirelessly for Gloucestershire Golf Union to keep the ship on an even keel which he certainly did during the floods 2007. I can assure you, no task is too difficult for him, and if there is an answer to anything he will find it. So at this point I would like to thank all the members of the Executive Committee and Past Presidents for their help and advice during my year of office. Finally I close by saying what a privilege it has been for me to serve as County President and how much I have enjoyed it. I can only hope Mike Darby, our new President and Martin Pettit, Vice President, both of whom I know will serve the County well.
