Over the past 55 years, Moog has developed the capability to design and manufacture the most advanced motion control and fluid flow products for both aerospace and industrial applications. Our high-performance actuation systems and components provide control for the latest military and commercial aircraft, spacecraft, satellites, launch vehicles and strategic and tactical missiles. We also provide controls for medical equipment and for a variety of industrial machines manufactured and installed all over the world – applications where precise control of velocity, force, acceleration and fluid flow are critical. One of our systems applications that investors find most familiar are flight control actuation systems. In a stick-to-tail flight control system, the control commands begin with the pilot interface – the stick
or the yoke. Pilot commands are sent to the flight control computer and subsequently to the corresponding electronic controllers mounted near or directly on the actuators that position flight control surfaces on the wings and the tail, as well as the wing’s leading and trailing edge. Our rendering displays the interconnectivity of the stick-to-tail components and the critical functions they perform. The interfaces highlighted include the flight control computer, the electronic controllers and the actuators for control of the wing surfaces. Flight control actuation system architecture on new aircraft is developed through detailed discussions with airframe customers to ensure that the system meets the desired levels of performance, safety and reliability and that it is fully certifiable by the appropriate aviation authorities. While the
example described here is an aircraft application, our very talented motion control engineers can address the most challenging customer requirements in space, defense, industrial or medical applications. Our strategy is to supply highly customized actuation solutions that are robust, reliable and highly supportable, and add significant value to our customer’s equipment. With this strategy we’ve grown from being a high technology components supplier to become a leading integrator of precision control actuation systems. From the original Moog servovalve design to the current generation of space vehicles, our products reflect the culture that our people embrace – a culture where the opportunity to solve a really challenging control problem is always welcomed.
