Welcome to our 75th Anniversary Season
Celebrating the anniversaries of both Handel and Purcell in 2009, we are bringing back David McVicar’s highly acclaimed production of Giulio Cesare and presenting, for the first time at Glyndebourne, Purcell’s masterpiece, The Fairy Queen. Falstaff reunites the highly successful partnership of Vladimir Jurowski and Richard Jones, while Rusalka is led by a great exponent of his native Czech music, Jirí Belohlávek. Finally, two very different operas close the summer – Donizetti’s enchanting comedy, L’elisir d’amore, and Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde in Nikolaus Lehnhoff’s classic production. One of the proudest Glyndebourne traditions over the past 75 years has been the discovery of exciting new artists and the 2009 Festival sees, once again, a number of rising young stars making their debuts. We are also pleased to be continuing our initiative to offer greatly reduced price seats for those under the age of 30 for selected performances. We look forward to welcoming our loyal audience to the 75th anniversary celebrations, together with many newcomers whom we sincerely hope will become our audience of the future.
