4 Spring 2009 Wickliffe Connection Special Events City Recreation Community Center: Guidelines for evening visitors The City of Wickliffe Community Center is now open Monday through Thursday 5:00-9:00 p.m. Many programs and meetings are scheduled at the Center. Wickliffe adults (18-54) need to purchase an annual membership pass at $10.00 to use the exercise room, poolroom, library, and computers. Special programs and meetings may be scheduled that take precedence over casual use of the rooms. Senior Center membership for those residents 55 years and better is $5.00 per person. Non-resident seniors pay $10.00 per year. Senior memberships include day and evening activities. Memberships are only available for Wickliffe residents 18 and over. Wickliffe resident’s entry fee is $2.00 per visit if not a member. Guests (18 and over) of a Wickliffe member will be admitted at a charge of $2.00 each. Children under 18 will be allowed in the building only when they are registered for a class or program. Membership is not required to enroll in programs, classes, meetings, or special events. Community Center phone number is 440-373-5015. Easter Egg Hunt for Wickliffe children through 7 years old. Come and hunt for Easter eggs. Some children will find special eggs with a special prize. Meet at the Coulby Park Gazebo on Saturday, April 4 at 11:30 sharp. Held rain or shine. Visit with the Easter Bunny. Fishing Derby “Free”, Rain or Shine! Wednesday, July 8th Register from 8:45 to 9 a.m. Derby held 9 to 11 a.m. Wickliffe children up to 15 years old are invited to test their fishing skills at Coulby Pond. Several prizes will be presented with special awards for the biggest fish and most caught. Bring your own fishing rod. Movies in the Park. A big screen movie will be shown at dusk on Friday, June 19 at Jindra Park. Food will be available at the Community Center or bring your picnic basket. Friday, July 24 at Coulby Park, the concession stand will be open or bring your picnic basket. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets. Movies to be determined at a later date and will be on the Web site when available. Business Sponsors needed! We are looking for sponsors for the Movie Nights; any business interested in making a monetary donation should contact the Recreation Department. John Mulaly Senior Center Recreation Department Classes Yoga: Tuesdays from 7:45 to 8:45 pm. Session starts April 7. $40 for 7 classes. Zumba: Wednesdays from 7:45 to 8:45 pm. “FREE” Demo Class on April 8. $40 for 7 classes. Computing that Works: Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:30 pm. Session starts April 9. $5 for 5 weeks. Limit of 4 Wickliffe residents per session. Polynesian Dance Classes – Thursdays from 8:15 to 9:15 pm. Session starts on April 9 $40 for 8 classes. “Health for Life” Aerobics: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Session starts April 14. $56 for 12 classes and $28 for 6 classes. See Web site for complete details on all classes. Annual Senior Memberships Annual membership for Wickliffe residents 55 years and better is $5.00 per person. Non-resident senior rate is $10.00 per person per year. Membership is required for daytime activities, classes and programs. Evening meetings or special events do not require membership. Evening activities are open to seniors with membership to the Center. Consult the Recreation Department about evening classes - additional fees may apply. Many services are provided, such as blood pressure checks and podiatrist visits. Many trips are also planned. Dial-a-Ride Bus Service This door-to-door bus service is designed to meet the transportation needs of residents 55 and over or residents with disabilities. A wheelchair lift is available. The bus operates on weekdays only. You may have a free ride from your home to the Senior Center and back home again. For appointments, you are requested to make your reservations at least two days in advance. You must contact the Recreation Dept. before scheduling your appointments. Transit Coordinator: Timothy E. Concerts in the Park Concerts are FREE and open to the public of all ages and will be held at the Community/Senior Center. Concerts are 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dates as follows: Tuesday, June 16 - Ron Stark Orchestra Concert; Tuesday, July 21, Ron Sluga; Wednesday, August 12, Scimitars Swing Band. AFM Local 657 and its affiliate have arranged music for this performance through Live Music Is Best, Inc. Seniors will be selling hot dogs, pop and watermelon from 5:30 to 7 p.m. $1 for seniors buying tickets at the Center. $2 for seniors and non-seniors at the concert. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets. Held rain or shine. Nutrition Site Meals are served Monday through Friday at 12 noon. Meals are served to seniors 60 years old and up for a donation of $1.25 per meal. Under 60 years old, meals are $3.50. Call one week in advance for a reservation. Golden Buckeye Cards Golden Buckeye cards are automatically mailed to eligible individuals age 60 and older who have a current Ohio Driver License or State I.D. card during the month of their 60th birthday.
