News of the get-togethers
Contact editorial directive from Trowse
Contact got a very clear message from the Norwich get-together. When the pensioners were asked what they wanted from their newsletter the message was brief and to the point – stories of the past, as we are the past. Well, we reckon stories about you and what you’re doing now are just as important, but the past is a key part of our publishing role and YOUR contributing role. There are archives, but much of our remarkable industrial history in this country still lies in the memories of those who have lived it. Almost every one of the last 40 or so issues of this newsletter will have contained nuggets of information of interest and value to future generations. We might not be living in the past – but let us not forget it. The Norwich get-together attracted a good attendance of 35 but organiser Ken Herbert wants more. He’s going into the film promotion business with the promise of a Carrow film showing “soon”. He won’t tell us any more at the moment – so it’s a watch this space situation (but make sure you’ve got those forthcoming gtg dates in your diary). New faces too at the Northern Get-together on March 31 – one of the most successful so far with 20 attending. The Goodfellowship is the name of the venue and descriptive too of the atmosphere as the wide range of Hull operations are remembered.
NEW FACES AT THE ORANGERY
A lovely Spring day made for an enjoyable Derby get-together at the picturesque Orangery in Markeaton Park, with the occasion further enhanced by five pensioners attending for the first time to bring the total to 35. The new faces were Derek Hamilton, Audrey Boyd, Cyril Pickering, John Mc linden and Yvonne Tyler. The meeting ended with a raffle and organiser Brian Bradley said the increased interest has every one looking forward to the next gettogether in September. As usual, a glimpse of the past provided an interesting talking point. This time, left, it was a 1991 shot of the Aerosol Department with manager David Reed standing at the back.
