They were published without a signature, letters, or an inscription in the margins. The title of each print was printed on interleaving paper. They were all made at the same time, just before the publication of the book. Some of them were exhibited in the Salon of 1886 and some at the Salon of 1887. Each stone furnished seven or eight trial proofs; the printing was done chez Lemercier, before the impressions that were intended for the book. He printed four complete sets for the author of the book. They are all fine impressions, printed on mounted China paper, with full margins. There is a little scattered foxing in the margins on some of the plates, otherwise the condition is very good.       previous page next page
